Duties of Pastors
- Pastors should be constant in reading, meditating, and preaching the word of God.
- Pastors should be constant in intercessory prayer for their own souls and their flocks’
- Pastors should be constant in visiting the sick, and ministering to those in spiritual need.
- Pastors should provide guidance, vision, and sound spiritual leadership to the church.
- Pastors should seek, edify, and use all the spiritual gifts God has placed in the Body according to God’s Word.
- Pastors should take special care of the spiritual nourishment of the children and young people in the church.
- Pastors should strive to visit in the community, and seek to spread the gospel in the areas around the church.
- The pastor’s primary focus should be his flock and the community around the church; however he should also seek to support evangelistic efforts at home and abroad as he is led by the Holy Spirit and through the church.
- Pastors should lead the church in all spiritual matters, and work with deacons in regards to the material needs of the church.
Calling of Pastors
General Guidelines
- The church should hold special prayer meetings and days of fasting to seek the will of God in finding a new pastor.
- The church should invite preachers that feel a call to be a pastor and witness their ability to preach and teach the word.
- The members should express their feelings about the candidates to one another and to the deacons. Each should feel free to be open and honest, yet willing to also hear others and come to a consensus.
- After a general consensus is reached the matter should be brought before the church conference, where it is subject to a motion, a second, and a ¾ majority vote for approval.
